This course provides a broad overview of the Department of Defense (DoD) space systems acquisition process, covering all pathways of acquisitions. It introduces students to the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS), the Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) process, and the DoD 5000-series policy and procedures documents. Special attention is given to space-specific issues within the acquisition framework. Designed for individuals with little or no experience in DoD acquisition management, this course offers a foundational perspective on the complexities of acquiring space systems. It highlights the timeline differences between the desire for new technologies and the lengthy acquisition process required to deliver them.
